Brabant experienced turbulent times in the Golden Age. Borders shifted, wars and peace treaties followed each other in rapid succession. This program focuses on the musical landscape in Brabant, between Brussels and Den Bosch. The works of composers such as Carl Rosier, Herman Hollanders, and Benedictus a Sancto Josepho have a common recognizable style. Their music is characterized by a dance-like playfulness with pure expression.
An important focus in this concert is on composer Benedictus Buns who is the organist and composer with the greatest oeuvre in the Brabant region. During his stay in the monastery of Boxmeer, he mainly wrote spiritual compositions. Without a doubt he was a connoisseur and expert of European musical life, with compositions that show how closely he studied the work of his colleagues. He was also an innovator who did not shy away from experimenting.
With works by Fiocco, Arcadelt, Rosier, Hollanders, B. a Sancto Josepho, and others.
