Overview

Bach may have written his most beautiful pieces for his favorite instrument, the organ. Holland Baroque passes these masterpieces on to the orchestra.

As rich as the ‘organo pleno’ sounded on the Silbermann organs of Johann Sebastian Bach, we now hear this wealth of sound translated to the orchestral instruments of Holland Baroque. Oboes, strings, bassoon and a full continuo group pay tribute to the organ: the indisputable ‘Queen of instruments’.

“Holland Baroque makes Bach’s organ pipes dance.” (Volkskrant)

Tineke Steenbrink: “The organ has a small group of intensely loyal followers. Bach’s organ works are particularly popular among them: they often know every note! In Holland Baroque we find it exciting to present these organ works – together with the orchestra – in a different way. Bach’s well-known combination of elaborate counterpoint, cantabile melodies and playful virtuosity is joined by the lesser-known, exuberant side of the grand master. A musical feast with the Queen as the shining centrepiece!”

Arrangements by Judith and Tineke Steenbrink.
