Reinbert de Leeuw’s St. Matthew Passion with the Netherlands Chamber Choir and Holland Baroque in 2016 was an overwhelming success. The Matthäus Mission, the documentary of Cherry Duyns about the performances, drew full halls and received the Crystal Film Prize.
It was therefore crystal clear that there had to be a follow-up. With a series of performances of Bach’s St. John’s Passion, not only Reinbert de Leeuw’s wish comes true, but also the wish of many Bach lovers.
Reinbert de Leeuw about the opening choir of Bach’s St. John’s Passion: “The beginning is a flow of unstoppable movement: you can not resist it.”
