Overview

More than 800 years ago, Francis of Assisi walked barefoot and unarmed from his crusader camp in Egypt to the camp of ‘the enemy’. He wanted to speak to the Sultan. Malek Al-Kamil and Francis broke the cycle of violence with their dialogue. Their desire for peace was at odds with the spirit of the times. This extraordinary event is the starting point of the meeting between the musicians of Ensemble Constantinople and Holland Baroque. This programme floats between old and new music, improvisation and composition, the Far East and the West. Time and again, both ensembles prove that interest, research and creativity lead to unique programmes.

Perfomers include Kiya Tabassian (setar, vocals, composition), Didem Başar (kanun) and Patrick Graham (percussion)
