In this programme, Holland Baroque presents a number of solo concertos that have never before been published, performed or recorded — world premieres!
Giovanni Benedetto Platti was court composer to Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn, a German count who collected more than a hundred cello concertos and sonatas. Following the early death of his wife, the count found solace and happiness in the cello. The archives of his castle contain a veritable treasure trove of Baroque cello concertos. Naturally, Vivaldi’s famous Concerto for Two Cellos is an essential part of this Italian Baroque programme.
