Overview

Dragon Dance is a musical encounter influenced by both Western and Chinese music. The sheng, a mouth organ with more than 3000 years of history, evokes a forgotten soundworld. At the same time, sheng master Wu Wei, like Holland Baroque, is an innovator of sound. After bringing this collaboration to many corners of the world, from China to Cologne and Groningen, Wu Wei and Holland Baroque now come to Batenburg.

Judith Steenbrink: “Batenburg Baroque Festival is a new festival that I initiated in my hometown of Batenburg. It’s fantastic that Holland Baroque and Wu Wei are coming to perform here. In Dragon Dance, you can hear many elements from nature. When Wu Wei talks about his music, he often speaks in the images of water, wind, stone, and fire. I find it very exciting to connect these elements to Batenburg: the Maas River, the rustling of the wind through the trees, the sound of birds; it is so present here. I’m really curious to see how this music blends with the acoustics of Batenburg.”
