Michaël Nieuwenhuizen studied musicology and art history at the University of Amsterdam. Starting in 1988 he worked in various positions at De Suite Foundation, Rotterdam Art Foundation, Donemus Publishers, MuziekGroep Nederland, De Kamervraag Foundation, Muziek Centrum Nederland, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2013-2020 he was a consultant and member of the Performing Arts Domain Committee of the Culture Council.
Since 2001, Michaël has specialized in International cooperation and for the aforementioned organizations, he coordinated many international projects with Dutch musicians and composers abroad. In 2014, he introduced the international conference Classical:NEXT in Rotterdam, for which he was recently project manager on behalf of De Doelen. He currently works as general secretary at the Classical Music Coalition and is a board member of Holland Baroque and The Alphons Diepenbrock Fund.
